Are kitchen tables outdated in today‘s modern homes? Is kitchen dining furniture still used? There are two reasons for asking this question: the increasing popularity of islands incorporating breakfast bars in larger kitchens, and the trend toward open plan areas in smaller and even average-size homes.
Quality: As with all types of furniture, quality is extremely important when looking at kitchen tables. A kitchen table will probably get more abuse than a dining room table, so think carefully about the quality of the table top especially. Always avoid tables that are made of MDF, which is medium density fiberboard. The finish on these types of tables is easily chipped and damaged, despite how silky smooth it looks the first time you see it in the store.
One of the great things about any round table is the beautiful look it gives your kitchen. While some homeowners like to have their table and chairs anchor a corner of the room, out of the way, you can also put your table front and center. This works particularly well if your kitchen has an open floor plan. You can use it in lieu of a kitchen island. In fact, you may find a nice bistro table to be perfect in the center of the kitchen, since it gives you a higher table that can double as prep space when preparing meals or baking. Round kitchen tables have a few other tricks they can do, too. With the right type of table, you can turn your kitchen into a retro dining space, ranging from something that has a country inspired look using a rustic, rough finished table to a fifties diner, complete with a Formica style top and padded chairs.
When you take time to actually examine the collection large of intriguing square kitchen tables in a furniture store now, you might be tempted to assume that you‘ve walked onto a set of a recent movie. Some contemporary or modern kitchen tables are constructed entirely of glass and still others feature an elegant marriage of metals and various other compound building materials. What you‘re probably not going to see, whether you‘re looking on the Internet or in conventional furniture outlets, is the same old stale square kitchen table your relatives had when you were growing up!
